Troubleshooting

  1. Check Minimum System Requirements
  2. Check If the DeckMania Blender Plugin is Properly Installed
  3. Check If the DeckMania Blender Plugin Folder Exists
  4. Check If the Symbolic Link for Blender Exists
  5. Check if the DeckMania StreamDeck Blender Add-on is Enabled in Blender

1. Check Minimum System Requirements

Before troubleshooting, ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements for the software you’re using:

Windows OS & macOS:

  • Ensure your operating system is up to date, either Windows or macOS.

Elgato Stream Deck App:

  • Version Requirement: Version 6.5 or newer.
To check your Elgato Stream Deck version:
    • Open the Elgato Stream Deck app.
    • Go to the Preferences menu.
    • In the General tab, check the version number displayed.
    • If your version is older than 6.5, you’ll need to update the app.

Blender:

  • Version Requirement: Version 4.3 or newer.
    To check your Blender version:
    • Open Blender.
    • Look at the top-right corner of the splash screen (the initial screen that appears when you launch Blender) to see the version number.
    • If you’re running a version earlier than 4.3, download and install the latest version from the Blender website.

2. Check If the DeckMania Blender Plugin is Properly Installed

Ensure that the DeckMania plugin is correctly installed in the Elgato Stream Deck app.

To check if DeckMania is installed:

  1. Open the Elgato Stream Deck app.
  2. Click on the Preferences menu (usually found in the top-right corner of the app).
  3. Navigate to the Plugins tab.
  4. Look for DeckMania in the list of installed plugins.

If DeckMania is not listed, you will need to install or reinstall it from the Elgato Marketplace.

3. Check If the DeckMania Blender Plugin Folder Exists

Ensure that the DeckMania Blender plugin folder exists in the correct directory. If the folder is missing, it could indicate a problem with the plugin installation.

To check the plugin folder:

  • For macOS:
    • Open Finder and press Cmd + Shift + G to bring up the “Go to Folder” window.
    • Enter the following path:
      $HOME/Library/Application Support/com.elgato.StreamDeck/Plugins/
    • Verify that the com.deckmania.blender.sdPlugin folder exists within this directory.
    • Check the contents of the folder. Typically, you should see various files related to the plugin’s functionality.
  • For Windows:
    • Open File Explorer and paste the following path into the address bar: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Elgato\StreamDeck\Plugins\
    • Ensure that the com.deckmania.blender.sdPlugin folder is present.
    • Check the contents of the folder. Typically, you should see various files related to the plugin’s functionality.

If the folder does not exist:

  • The plugin may not have been installed properly.
  • You will need to install or reinstall the DeckMania Blender plugin from the Elgato Marketplace.

4. Check If the Symbolic Link for Blender Exists

For the DeckMania Blender plugin to work properly, there must be a symbolic link between the Blender add-on folder and the DeckMania Blender plugin folder.

This issue is common after installing a new version of Blender, as each version uses its own add-ons folder. If the symbolic link is missing, the plugin will not function correctly.

To check if the symbolic link exists:

  • For macOS:
    • Open Finder and press Cmd + Shift + G to bring up the “Go to Folder” window.
    • Enter the following path for Blender version 4.3:
      $HOME/Library/Application Support/Blender/4.3/scripts/addons/
    • Look for the deckmania-streamdeck-blender symbolic link in this folder. The symbolic link should point to the DeckMania Blender plugin folder.
  • For Windows:
    • Open File Explorer and paste the following path into the address bar:
      C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\4.3\scripts\addons\
    • Check for the presence of the deckmania-streamdeck-blender symbolic link in this directory.

If the symbolic link is missing:

The symbolic link may have been lost, especially after upgrading to a new version of Blender.

To create the symbolic link:

  1. Visit the DeckMania website’s Downloads page to get the script required to create the symbolic link.
  2. For macOS:
    • To make symbolic link on MacOS run the file DeckMania Install Blender Addon.app.
  3. For Windows:
    • To make symbolic link on Windows run the file DeckMania Install Blender Addon.bat.

Once the symbolic link is created, restart Blender to ensure everything is functioning correctly.

5. Check if the DeckMania StreamDeck Blender Add-on is Enabled in Blender

Ensure that the DeckMania StreamDeck Blender add-on is enabled in Blender’s Preferences. If the add-on is not enabled, the integration between Blender and the Stream Deck will not work.

To check if the add-on is enabled:

  1. Open Blender.
  2. Go to the Edit menu at the top of the window and select Preferences to open the Preferences window.
  3. In the Preferences window, click on the Add-ons tab on the left-hand side.
  4. Use the search bar at the top of the Add-ons section and type: DeckMania StreamDeck Blender.
  5. Check if the add-on appears in the list and the checkbox next to it is checked (enabled).

If the add-on is missing or not showing up:

  • Ensure that the symbolic link is properly set up, as described in the previous step.
